Attracted by the first rays of sunlight filtering through my window, I got up early that day. Sipping a cup of herbal tea that I'd concocted with a few ingredients from my workshop, I enjoyed this moment of tranquillity, watching nature gradually awaken.
It soon became apparent that, despite all my good will, it was impossible for me to get down to work properly. On the one hand, even though there was no fire burning in my workshop, it turned out to be a real furnace, and on the other hand, the light outside didn't make me want to stay indoors. In these conditions, there's nothing better than a walk in the open air... So I gathered together a few books and other essential instruments before leaving my home, determined to go and work outside.
After a short walk, I found a pleasant glade dotted with a few moss-covered rocks and plants that might prove useful, so I set up my things - it seemed an ideal spot! Sitting down at the foot of a large oak tree, some of whose roots spanned a narrow stream, I began to read some ancient texts on the properties of various herbs and minerals. Armed with my notebook, I often put my reading on hold as soon as my eyes fell on a paragraph that was likely to be useful for my research. Likewise, if I happened to have a fleeting idea, I would do my utmost to get it down on paper before it slipped my mind.
As the minutes and hours ticked by, the reading gave way to experimentation. Using the vials and samples I'd taken from my light pack, I began mixing various herbs and powders, observing and documenting their reactions with precision. Carried away by the softness of the air, I let myself go, from time to time, to the silent contemplation of the clouds or to listening to the murmurings of the nearby stream or the birdsong.
The day went on like that for a long time, between idleness and various tasks. During my few moments of contemplation, I had plenty of time to observe the sky, its variations and the whole range of colours it could take on in such a short space of time.
Wanting to stretch my legs, I momentarily abandoned my makeshift laboratory to explore the surrounding area a little more. When I reached a sparse summit, I was able to admire the surrounding topography and the neighbouring hills. As my gaze drifted towards the horizon, I caught sight of a fire-breather, bathed in the reddish light of the declining sun, which seemed to be leaving the area to return to its habitat.
It was from this meeting that I got the idea of setting about creating new dragon eggs that could be adorned with the characteristic hues that the sky takes on at certain times of the day. So I set off back to my camp of the day to continue working for a while, combining the plants from the clearing with a few fragments of powdered crystals. Absorbed in these preliminary stages of creation, it took me a while to notice that the sun had finally set, giving me a new variation of the celestial canvas. So I gathered up my things and headed home to continue my work in a much cooler workroom.
